I procured this antique Ethiopian cross at an art market in southern Africa many years ago. It is an openwork cross, possibly in the Axum (Aksumite) style, reflecting the rich symbolic and geometric vocabulary of Ethiopian Christian art. It is made from a traditional Ethiopian silver alloy that makes it golden in colour and I have added small 9ct gold balls to the cross, finishing it with West African glass beads on a suede leather thong. Cross 6cm long, 4cm wide, leather 65cm.
