Drooping Sheaok
This magnificent male Drooping Sheoak is in full ‘flower’., hence its rusty colour. These trees disappeared from the mainland in the 1970s affecting the endangered South Australian Glossy Black-Cockatoo that feeds almost exclusively on seeds from these trees. Extensive projects have been undertaken on the island to restore this important feeding habitat for the birds whose numbers are thankfully now increasing.
