Ibo Island Fisherman, Mozambique
Ibo Island lies off the coast of Mozambique and was once frequented by Arab traders in their dhows, as well as being occupied by the Portuguese during the first part of the 20th century. Most people in the region and indeed most of the country live a subsistence life based on fishing and farming.
This photo was taken when I worked in the region as part of a project that was promoting ecotourism as an additional source of income for locals.
This fishermen had stopped off on a sand bar that had appeared at low tide to tend to his fishing net under the hot summer sun, surrounded by a turquoise and azure tropical ocean and reef.
